Let the fighter go free!!!  We were out on North Twin last weekend fishing for smallies!!  There are some bass on their beds but many more beds to be made.  We found about 7 beds but as the days go on their will be more.  The biggest one we caught would not come off the bed at all, you had to put the jig right on the bed, the others would just nail it if you were by the bed by 5 feet.  I hope to get back out there soon and get a more detailed report!

It was pretty calm when we started and then the wind picked up and it just got cold.  The fish were biting slow but we were determined to catch a fish, one single fish!  And, we almost failed.  My last cast with my 1/8oz. firetiger jig did the trick.  I reeled in a nice, thick 18" and it made my day!

Fish seemed to hit the bait while it was on the way down from the jigging motion.  All of them were in the 13-14.5" range, fairly active for how cold it was.  It seemed only one spot had "the catch" going on.  We used a 1/8oz. red and white jig with a fathead and it seemed almost every cast for about 30 minutes had a fish on the end of it.  After awhile your hands started to get cold and we couldn't feel our fingers, but we dragged on hoping to land a keeper. It was 9PM when we packed up and it was dead for the last 10 minutes before that.  It seems that the fish bite just before the sun goes down and quit as soon as the sun disappears over the horizon.

Some fish are suspended about 10-15' and there were other people using slip bobbers and minnows.

Jigging on the bottom and the fishing are just putting it in their mouth, so you have to give it a little bit of time.  I suggest a light-medium sensitive rod for this so you can feel the difference between just the bait to having it in a fish's mouth.  I used a 1/8oz. firetiger jig.  We caught a 14" walleye and a 14 1/2" walleye.  It seemed that the fish were not very aggressive, and if you pulled the bait out of their mouths, most of them did not pick it up again.
